🌿 ROOTED
Rooted isn’t fancy.
It isn’t polished.
It doesn’t shine like a new nickel or sparkle like a pair of oxford shoes on a Sunday morning church service.
Rooted is soul‑deep strength, the kind Jesus plants in you so you can stand when life leans hard.
The kind that grows in hard soil, in lean years, in seasons when the rain forgets your name and the wind tries to take what little you have left.
Rooted is what held front porch hymn songs steady when the world felt thin. Rooted is what made a woman bow her head over a patchwork quilt and whisper, “Lord, hold us steady, hold us together.”
And in the sewing room. Your little hideout of faith and fabric, ROOTED settles in like a quiet truth, not loud, not showy, only steady.
A rooted tree grows strong and upright, but it still bends with the wind. We’re the same. Jesus asks us to stand firm, yet He knows we sometimes sway. and He remains steady so we can return to Him. The kind of steady that comes from a Tree of Life quilt block, branches reaching heavenward, roots gripping deep, roots do their best work underground.
they hide, they grip deep in the dirt. Roots hold on when everything else lets go.

2🎶 “I shall not be moved…” 📖 That person is like a tree planted (rooted) by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither, whatever they do prospers. Psalms 1:3Rooted is not about standing tall. It’s about standing grounded. Grounded in Christ. Grounded by truth. Grounded by the same God who planted the Tree of Life in the first place. Rooted is the quiet miracle of staying when everything else says run. Staying because Jesus grounds you. Staying because your roots go deeper than the storm.
🧵 THE HIDEOUT ~ CLYDE & LAURA
It was one of those soft, cloudy mornings where the light moved so slowly, like it was waking up right along with the house. You could almost smell the rain coming in the distance, that warm, earthy promise the sky makes before it opens. The smell of fresh coffee drifted in from the kitchen, warm and steady, wrapping itself around the room like a quilt you are not ready to just let go of.
The old screen door gave its little creak and that bang, that familiar sound this house has heard many times before. And somewhere just past it, Wayne’s whistle floated in the air, low, easy and so soft and sweet, carrying the tune of “I Shall Not Be Moved.” You could almost see the notes drifting in, like the needle rising and falling almost with the tune.
The melody drifted across the sewing room gentle as a breeze, and without even thinking, Laura’s motor answered with the faintest hum. Soft. Barely there. The kind of hum you feel more than hear, like a song settling into her frame, warming her from the inside out.
Across the room, Clyde watched.
He longed for the day Robyn would place them side by side in the window so they could watch the sunrise together. But for now, he kept his embroidery arm cocked just slightly, that gangster lean he’d perfected, pretending he wasn’t watching her every move.
But he was. He always was. And today? No different.
But Laura… sweet Laura… she wasn’t as still as she looked.
She drifted in and out, stealing little glances at Clyde from the corner of her eye, just enough that he wouldn’t notice. She liked him. Lord help her, she did. But she wasn’t about to let him know it. A lady had her ways, and one of them was keeping her stitches and her cords close.
Truth was, she wasn’t ready to be rooted the way Clyde was wanting.
Not yet. She had a calling, she needed to finish first. This quilt, this twelve-month journey she and Robyn were stitching together along with Clyde, was her purpose. Her ministry. Her joy. Each block was a chapter. Each stitch a prayer. Each month a step closer to something God whispered long before the first fabric was cut. She could hardly wait to see all twelve months laid out, a testimony in cotton and thread.
Clyde, meanwhile, had some hope tucked deep in his embroidery frame…the kind a fella doesn’t say out loud. He wondered if today was the day Robyn might set him beside Laura. Close enough to hear her motor purr. Close enough to feel her warmth. Close enough that their cords didn’t just tangle like strangers brushing shoulders but intertwined like they belonged.
Their touching cords were not enough anymore.
Not for Clyde. Not for the way he felt. He dreamed it. He prayed for it. He hoped again.
Then he heard it, voices drifting from the kitchen. Robyn’s soft and familiar. Wayne’s deep and steady. And then the hymn:
🎶 “I shall not be moved…” 🎶 A hymn with roots deeper than any oak tree.
Laura stirred, her light flickering awake like a lantern catching flame. She lifted her needle with a soft metallic sigh, as if she too felt that hymn settle into the room.
ROOTED.
Her mind wandered into daydreams. What would the Lord lay on Robyn’s heart for June? A basket of flowers? Vegetables, maybe those old fashioned nightshades? Or something simpler… something truer. A tree. Tall. Steady. Reaching heavenward. Roots stretching deep into the earth, drinking from unseen streams. She could almost see it, showed against a dusky sky, branches lifted like hands in worship.
Yes… a tree could speak volumes. A tree could testify. A tree could be the block. See, Laura has an eye for the blocks and is in tune with Robyn she could almost read her mind, for they have been together for a long time. And as she imagined it, something warm settled into her frame, not romance, not longing, but calling.
“Lord, root me where You want me.”
She wasn’t ready for Clyde’s kind of rooting. But she was ready for God’s. And that was enough for now. Clyde was not in line with this yet. He did not understand this call that Laura had. With time he will see and understand. Laura keeps him in her prayers as Robyn and Wayne start their morning with prayer… It is sweet sounds early in the morning coming from the kitchen and the sweet aroma of coffee fills the room to Laura this is what she is wanting for her and Clyde. He has a ways to go. With this journey of these 12 blocks quilt, she is hoping that Clyde will see, hear, and understand what she longs for in her journey and is praying for him as well.
📖 “He shall be like a tree planted by streams of water…”
Psalm 1:3
Clyde felt it settle into him too, sweet, steady, strong.
Laura’s motor hummed a soft amen.
And as June settled to a close, the sewing room felt still, the kind of still that comes after a prayer is whispered and heard. Laura rested in her calling, Clyde in his hope, and the whole house seemed to breathe one soft amen… unaware that July was already stirring on the horizon, carrying a story 250 years in the making.
⭐ COMING IN JULY…
Laura’s hum grows steadier, deeper, and pleased like she’s stitching with purpose now. And Clyde? Let’s just say even his embroidery arm stands a little steadier this month. He is growing one stitch at a time.
A new Word. A new Scripture. A new hymn from old. A new vintage block. A new chapter in their outlaw‑for‑Jesus story, this time stitched in red, white, and redeemed.
And this next block? It’s the kind that makes freedom ring through the sewing room, makes hearts stand at attention, and makes even renegades pause long enough to honor the roots they came from.
Stay tuned, Quilt Gangstas. July is about to rise… one star‑spangled stitch at a time.

🌿 TIP JUNE: ROOTED
When you thread your needle for the ROOTED block this month, pause and whisper:
“Lord, root me deep in You.” 🌿🧵
Let each stitch remind you:
• God steadies what life tries to shake.
• God strengthens what feels weak.
• God grows what’s planted in Him.
• God anchors you when the winds pick up.
• And yes, always laugh at the small stuff too. 😄
As this block comes together, piece by piece, quiet and steady, remember:
Jesus is rooting you the same way…
slow, gentle, and right on time.

🧵✨ STABILIZERS HOW TO USE FOR WHAT ✨🧵
(What they are, what they are used for),
🌿 1. Tear‑Away Stabilizer
What it is: A paper‑like stabilizer that tears away cleanly after stitching. Comes in light, medium, and heavy weights.
What it’s for: Perfect for woven fabrics, quilt blocks, and designs that don’t need long‑term support.
🌳 2. Cut‑Away Stabilizer
What it is: A soft, fabric‑like stabilizer that stays in the project permanently. You trim around the design, but the rest remains.
What it’s for: Knit fabrics, stretchy materials, and any embroidery that needs long‑term stability.
🌱 3. Wash‑Away Stabilizer
What it is: A stabilizer that dissolves completely in water, leaving nothing behind.
What it’s for: Freestanding lace, delicate fabrics, heirloom stitching, and any project where you don’t want stabilizer left in the final piece.
🌿 4. Heat‑Away Stabilizer
What it is: A stabilizer that vanishes with heat from an iron…poof, gone.
What it’s for: Specialty fabrics that can’t get wet, or projects where water would distort the stitches.
🌳 5. Adhesive (Sticky‑Back) Stabilizer (You will be best friends with your repair person with this stabilizer): A stabilizer with a peel‑off sticky surface that holds fabric in place without hooping it tightly.
What it’s for: Small pieces, tricky fabrics, or anything you can’t hoop without stretching.
🌱 6. Fusible Stabilizer
What it is: A stabilizer with a heat‑activated glue that bonds to the fabric.
What it’s for: Appliqué, quilt blocks, and projects that need crisp edges and no shifting.
🌿 7. No‑Show Mesh Stabilizer
What it is: A soft, sheer cut‑away stabilizer that disappears behind light fabrics.
What it’s for: Lightweight quilt blocks, baby clothes, T‑shirts, and anything where you don’t want stabilizer showing through.
🌳 8. Water‑Soluble Topping
What it is: A thin film placed on top of fabric to keep stitches from sinking into plush or textured materials. This is a must have on hand all the time. I use it all the time.
What it’s for: Towels, fleece, minky, terry cloth, anything fluffy.
🌱 9. Heavy‑Weight Cut‑Away
What it is: The strongest stabilizer, thick, firm, and built for dense stitching.
What it’s for: Bold satin stitches, heavy designs, and anything Clyde would brag about.
🌿 10. PolyMesh (Soft Mesh) Stabilizer
What it is: A soft, flexible cut‑away that prevents “tunneling” or puckering.
What it’s for: Stretchy fabrics, quilt blocks, and delicate stitching.
